A day...

For months I have been meaning to keep a timeline of my day to post on here. I finally remembered to do it!

6:30am-The alarm, my husband, wakes me. I wake the kids, fix their breakfast with instructions that they better be done and brushing teeth when I get out of the shower. It worked.

7:12-Abigail wakes up while I am packing lunches. Hannah is able to go in and get her shoes and socks.

7:28-off to school

7:39-back home

8:15-breakfast has been consumed

8:30-Decide to deep clean Abigail's room (I'm determined to do one room a day).

8:35-Abigail wants to wear all the shoes I am attempting to away

8:41-Time for different shoes.

9:02-Abigail keeps pulling one of her two favorite blankets out of the hamper so I decide to start a load of laundry so she can't get it.

9:17-Back to cleaning Abigail's room but she is quiet somewhere. I find her in the laundry room (where the dogs sleep), clothes soaked and the water bowl emptied on the floor.

9:17.55-Run to grab a towel

9:19-Mess cleaned and Abby's clothes changed

9:22-Back to cleaning/organizing

9:25-Change dirty diaper

9:45-Done in Abigail's room. And it is perfect timing because she is whiny and ready for a nap.

9:55-Shhhh! Abby is in bed.

10:10-Still sitting in recliner deciding what to do next. I haven't even put in my contacts today (I'm wearing my glasses).

10:12-Hubby calls to say gas comp should be here within 2 minutes to check our yard for gas lines so hubby knows whether he can dig up a couple tree stumps this weekend.

10:14_They are here.

10:18-We are clear to dig.

10:24-Switch laundry

11:24-Take a break from cleaning the kitchen and making a cute file thing out of cereal boxes to drink my weight loss shake. (I would show you the picture but the memeory card in my camera is messed up)

11:30-Start reading over my Bible CLub lesson one last time before tonight.

noon-Abby is still sleeping...more tidying.

13:37-Sit down at computer to start this blog post.

12:40-Anothe phone call from hubby! He never calls me during the day unless he needs something and I rather like getting his calls. It was short and sweet.

12:41-Back to the blog

12:46-I hear Abby but I'm not going in until she makes a fuss.

12:55-Time to get the monster.

12:57-make her lunch

1:18-vacuum Abby's room while she's confined to the high chair.

1:23-Another utility company is here to mark lines for digging

1:27-Since we were outside, decided to go next door and visit grandma.

2:00-Come home to get ready for going to get Hannah and Ryan from school

2:35-Come home, get snacks, look thru book bags and put everything away

2:50-practice letters with Ryan and his "popcorn" words (which he knows already!) Hannah kidnaps Abigail to play.

3:09-Ryan volunteers to vacuum the livingroom rug for me.

3:14-sit down to update this blog post.

3:18-Ryan brings me 4 small containers of food coloring and wants to know what they are. Experiment time!

The rest of the afternoon is a blur. I know it consisted of practicing Hannah's 3 spelling words, showers for the 3 kids, supper (Brad brought home Wendy's) and off to church.

8:44-Here I am now, the kids are all in bed (but not sleeping yet so tomorrow they will be tired at school tomorrow) and we are eating a slice of 5 minute pie before hitting the hay for the night.

I've been trying to think of something clever to blog about all day but I haven't come up with anything yet. Therefore you get the boring ol' what's been up since school started.

So far everything is going smoothly. I've been asking the kids the best and worst part of the day and if anyone made them upset at some point in the evening (usually at the dinner table). It seems the best part of the day for them both is eating or gym/recess. Surprise! Surprise! They have a new gym teacher this year. He is a lot more fun and less strict than the other teacher. The other teacher required all the girls to have their hair back no matter what and if it wasn't pulled back she gave them a rubberband to pull it back. Doesn't sound bad really but my daughter made it complicated and go put your hair back in a rubberband and take it out.......not fun!

Hannah's teacher does spelling tests differently, which both Hannah and I love. Normally it is get a list of 12 words on Monday and write them several times every night and have a test on Friday. This year they have a pre-test on Monday, before even getting the list of words. Whatever you spell right in the pre-test, you don't have to spell on Friday. Don't ask how she keeps that straight for 20 kids! So this week Hannah missed 3 on the pre-test; two because she made her b and d backwards. So instead of spending an hour every evening writing words and taking practice tests, we can spend just a handful of minutes on it!

We are still not giving Hannah any medication for ADD. I'm praying the Lord continues to bless in this situaton! I'm so thankful this teacher is so much different than last years.

I don't have much to report about Ryan. His teacher is already working with them on "popcorn" words, which are words he should be able to know just by looking at them. This week's words are "I" and "am." I'm excited to see how his education helps him in comparison with Hannah.

I was worried about how bedtime was going to go since Hannah and Ryan are sharing a room now. During the summer they stayed up late goofing off and it wasn't a big deal. Now they are having to lay their and be still and quiet. Not easy but so far there have been no issues!

I'm letting them stay up just a little later this year. Bedtime has always been 7pm bc that is what they have needed. I like for them to wake up on their own, ready to get up and moving, rather than having to drag them out of bed and fight with them to get moving. (they don't always get up on their own) Well, this year I'm letting them stay up as late as 7:30! =)

changes

Time to start the school schedule again!

It seems like I was just picking them up on the last day of school. The summer went by too fast and we didn't really do that much!

I am really excited for this school year for Hannah. Last year was horrible for her and I know this year can only be better. Not only is this a repeat, she is a year older and I hope alittle more mature. She was put on medication for ADD more than half way thru the year and it made a tremendous difference but we are not giving it to her yet this year. Even tho it helped a lot, it still had its side effects and it is still a drug that I was giving my 7 year old so I'm going to see if we can avoid it...for now. I already like her teacher, who happened to be held back her 2nd grade year also (probably close to 50 years ago). I have already met with her more than once. She said Hannah had a great day today! =)

Ryan keeps talking about how much he hates that he has to do math but they haven't even done any yet! I am also excited about his school year. I think his education is headed in a totally different direction than Hannah's did. When Hannah was in kindergarten, the teacher was fired within the first month for verbally abusing some of the kids. The teacher that replaced her was brand new. She had never taught her own class ( I think she was an aide before). Needless to say, Hannah's experience was too much like preschool so when she got to first grade, she wasn't prepared physically or mentally for the sudden change to sitting all day, doing work and having homework. She wasn't reading anything when she went into first grade. Ryan's K teacher mailed papers to me over the summer with a list of words that we needed to start teaching him to read. So I'm excited to see what this year does for him. BTW, neither Hannah's K or 1st gr teachers is still at this school. And the teacher she had last year has been there for like 30 years!

I know there is a reason for everything so I am just trying to see the big picture and how the difficulties hannah has had already will work out for her good in the future. =)

I almost forgot to mention my poor, lonely Abigail. She did fine all by her lonesome today.

vacation

I'm happy to report that a great vacation was had by all! "The Bigs" spent a day and night at the beach with us and then we shipped them back to my parents' for VBS. Brad and I and "the Little" spent 5 days at the beach. While it was very quiet and relaxing we realized that there isn't much point in going on vacation without the kids. We were constantly wishing they were there to enjoy the beach with us or see the dolphins from the pier or whatever else we were doing.

You all know how it goes when you come back from vaca. There is more work to do than when you left. So I feel like I'm in need of another vacation already! This week is one of the busiest of the summer with dentist appts, reg dr appts, swimming parties, birthday parties, and who knows what I am forgetting!

Next week the kids go back to school. I am not ready for summer to be over. This has been one of the best!
